Learning objectives
30 min · 764 words
- ◆Name the seven primary chakras in Sanskrit and English, in ascending order.
- ◆Distinguish the classical tantric transmission from popular reductions.
- ◆Locate each chakra in its bodily region, its psychological domain, and its typical relational signature.
Historical Record
HistoricalThe canonical seven-chakra system is codified in the Sat-Cakra-Nirupana (1577 CE) by Purnananda-Yati, later translated into English by John Woodroffe as The Serpent Power (1919). Earlier tantric texts describe systems ranging from six to twelve centers.
Traditional Transmission
TraditionalClassical tantra teaches the chakras as vortices where nadis converge, not as anatomical organs. Each chakra has a bija, a yantra, petals, an element, and a presiding principle.
Contemporary Evidence
EvidenceModern research does not confirm chakras as physical structures, but converges strongly on the regions they name. Polyvagal literature (Porges, 2011) identifies distinct neural circuits corresponding to gut, heart, and face/throat. Interoception research (Craig, 2015) shows the body encodes emotion in region-specific ways.
KAfrequency Application
KAF OriginalKAfrequency teaches the chakras as frequency bands diagnosed by three signals: bodily sensation, emotional tone, and relational pattern.
Scientific context
EvidencePolyvagal theory and interoception research converge on the body-regions the chakras name.
