The Aura and the Bodygraph

Reading the map before you interpret the territory

Learning objectives

18 min · 64 words

  • Define the Human Design aura and describe how each Type's aura interacts differently
  • Identify the seven structural components of the bodygraph (centers, channels, gates, planets, lines, profile, definition)
  • Distinguish traditional/experiential claims of Human Design from evidence-based claims

What is the Aura?

Traditional
In Human Design the aura is described as a field of information radiating roughly two to four meters around the body. Each of the four Types is said to carry a distinct auric signature — the Manifestor is closed and repelling, the Generator open and enveloping, the Projector focused and penetrating, the Reflector sampling and resistant. Practitioners work with the aura first because, in the system's view, most human friction happens auric-to-auric before a single word is spoken.

Anatomy of the Bodygraph

Traditional
The bodygraph is a two-body diagram made of nine geometric Centers, 36 Channels connecting them, and 64 Gates named for the hexagrams of the I Ching. Around the chart are the planetary activations at birth and at the design moment (~88 solar degrees before birth). The Profile (a pair of Lines 1–6) and the Definition (how many separate defined pieces you carry) are read from the same chart.

What Science Can and Cannot Say

Evidence
There are no peer-reviewed clinical trials validating Human Design's specific claims about auras, Types, or Strategies. What research does support are adjacent findings: humans emit weak biophotonic and electromagnetic fields (measurable but far weaker than the traditional aura description), and personality frameworks — used reflectively, not deterministically — can improve self-awareness.

A KAfrequency Reading of the Map

KAF Original
At Buddha KA Academy we teach the bodygraph as a mirror, not a verdict. The chart names patterns your body has already been living; the practice is to notice, experiment, and keep what proves true in your direct experience. The map is useful only to the degree it returns you to your own signal.

Scientific context

Evidence

No controlled trials validate HD-specific claims; biofields are measurable but weak.

Historical context

Historical

Ra Uru Hu (Alan Krakower) introduced Human Design in Ibiza in 1987.

Traditional context

Traditional

Taught as a body-based decision system, not predictive.

Reflect before you answer

Saved to your Journal

1. Where in your life do you notice the effect of another person's presence before any words are spoken?

2. Which part of the bodygraph draws your attention first, and what do you assume it means?

3. What is one HD claim you are willing to test experimentally for 30 days without believing or disbelieving it?

  1. 1. How many Centers are in the bodygraph?

  2. 2. In what year was Human Design synthesized by Ra Uru Hu?

  3. 3. Which statement is a traditional HD claim rather than an evidence-based finding?
