The Five Types

Manifestors, Generators, MGs, Projectors, Reflectors

Learning objectives

8 min · 400 words

  • Name the five Types and give the population percentage and defining mechanic of each.
  • Match each Type to its Strategy and its healthy signature emotion (peace, satisfaction, satisfaction-and-peace, success, surprise).
  • Explain the not-self theme (anger, frustration, frustration-and-anger, bitterness, disappointment) as feedback that Strategy is being ignored.

Aura mechanics

Traditional
Your Type is a description of the shape and function of your aura — closed and repelling (Manifestor), open and enveloping (Generator/MG), focused and penetrating (Projector), or resistant and sampling (Reflector). Aura precedes behavior; other people's nervous systems register it before you say a word.

Strategy: the correct way to initiate

Traditional
Each Type has one Strategy that matches its aura. Manifestors inform; Generators and MGs respond; Projectors wait for invitation and recognition; Reflectors wait a lunar cycle. Following Strategy is what lowers resistance in daily life.

Signature and not-self

Traditional
When Strategy is honored, each Type experiences a signature feeling: Manifestor = peace, Generator = satisfaction, MG = satisfaction and peace, Projector = success, Reflector = surprise. When Strategy is ignored, the not-self feeling appears: anger, frustration, frustration-and-anger, bitterness, disappointment. These are not moral judgments; they are dashboard lights.

Practical calibration

KAF Original
For one week, notice which of the five signature or not-self states dominates your day. That reading, more than any chart interpretation, tells you whether you are living your Type or fighting it.

A note on population statistics

Evidence
The percentages above (Manifestor ~8%, Generator ~37%, MG ~33%, Projector ~21%, Reflector ~1%) are widely cited within the Human Design community. They are not derived from a peer-reviewed demographic study; treat them as community estimates.

Reflect before you answer

Saved to your Journal

1. Which Type's Strategy feels most foreign to how you have been living? What would honoring it change tomorrow?

2. Recall a recent moment of frustration, anger, bitterness, disappointment, or peace. Which Strategy step, honored or skipped, produced it?
